Prithviraj: Sets Of Akshay Kumar Starrer To Now Be Destroyed Owing To HUGE Maintenance Cost?

The outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus has affected everyone in many ways. The recent film to face the wrath of the virus is Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer Prithviraj. As per reports, the huge sets created for the period drama will be pulled down now, as the monsoon is about to kick and the cost of maintenance is turning out to be expensive.

For the unversed, Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar that marks the debut of Miss World Manushi Chhillar is the story of the King of Chahamana, Prithviraj Chauhan. The shooting of the film was on in full swing, but the pandemic brought things to a standstill. Now, if the reports are to go by, Yash Raj Films has decided to destroy the sets erected in Dahisar, Mumbai, before the monsoon kicks in. Reason being, that the maintenance cost of it is huge, and spending it with no idea when things will get back to normal is difficult.

A source close to the development in a chat with Hindustan Times, said, “The head honchos of Yash Raj Films had kept the set standing over the past two months, hoping that the situation would improve soon. However, with the rains only weeks away, it doesn’t seem feasible to retain the set any longer. The makers are currently procuring necessary permission to have it pulled down. Akshay had filmed a major portion of the Chandraprakash Dwivedi-directed drama at the Dahisar set before the lockdown was announced, but some crucial sequences have yet to be shot.”

Reportedly, in Dahisar, there were two giant sets erected for Prithviraj. One that of the king’s palace and the other of a fighting arena where action sequences were supposed to be shot. However, now as the pandemic is showing no signs of subsiding, many filmmakers are forced to take this step.

For now, Prithviraj is set for a Diwali release. But with the task of re-erecting the sets and finishing the left portion, it seems there might be some changes. While this is Manushi Chhillar’s debut pad, Akshay Kumar has over 6 films in the pipeline including Sooryavanshi, Laxmmi Bomb, Bell Bottom, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey and Atrangi Re.
